Open Studio

  • Studio Yukari 129 Mile End Road London, England, E1 4BG United Kingdom (map)

* This is a recurring event. Open Studio takes place the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month. Please pay attention to our calendar for exact dates.

Date: 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month

Time: 1830-2230 (Doors open at 1815)

Venue: Studio Yukari, London E1 4BG

Open Studio is an event for people to tie, practise, observe and talk about Shibari. Studio Yukari opens its doors for people who prefer to practise Shibari in a more intimate, quiet setting. There will be no introduction, no music and no theme.

All levels are welcome. You can come on your own or come with your friends/tying partners. If it is your first time or you are relatively new to Shibari, please feel free to message us in advance and our staff are happy to give you a brief introduction and connect you with other attendees.

There is no obligation to tie. We believe that apart from attending classes and regular practice, watching peers tie form an integral part of learning as well. We also have a mini library with books on Shibari, ikebana (flower arrangement), chado (tea ceremony) and kitsuke (kimono fitting). There will be a quiet corner with a low table for people who prefer to only observe and be by themselves.

Please note that Studio Yukari is a space dedicated to Shibari only but not BDSM play. Our risk policy does not allow for dynamic drops and lifts, double/triple suspensions and load bearing neck ropes. When in doubt, please speak with our staff for clarification on our risk policy.

How is Open Studio different from a Rope Salon?

Studio Yukari’s Rope Salons take place every month. It is a social gathering with introduction and a theme. We often host a Kinbaku live inviting talented riggers and their models to share their style.

On the other hand, Open Studio runs twice a month in an open format, with tiered pricing for people with different financial means. You are welcome to come and leave anytime. The event will be run by YOU, the community, instead of by us as the host.

Dress Code

Please wear something that is comfortable for you. Please note that Studio Yukari has a strict no-shoe policy. We have a cloakroom on ground level for shoes and coats.

What should I bring?

Studio Yukari is equipped with wooden beams, bamboos (2-meter long) and hashira. If you wish to tie, please bring your own ropes, safety shears and other suspension equipment that you might need, such as carabiners, rings and slings), and items for aftercare.

Limited numbers of community ropes will be available.

Pricing structure

There are three different pricing tiers for people with different financial means.

There is a limited number of solidarity tickets for each event. We try to balance financial flexibility with financial sustainability for the space. However, if solidarity tickets are sold out and you would really love to join us, please email us at contact@studioyukari.com and we will try our best to facilitate.

We also strongly encourage people who have the financial capacity to get the supporter tickets. This will allow us to offer more solidarity tickets in the future and support the growth of our community!
